Monday, Sept. 08, 2003 - 9:05 a.m. Greetings, Well, I did ask for the change of seasons. And now I am suffering with sinuses big time. I am typing this entry, for instance, with my eyes half closed because the glare of the PC screen is threatening to send me into orbit. A dizzy, round and round orbit at that. And freaking Mary Beth is sick today with, guess what, dizzy sinus trouble. I still plan to go home early and screw everything and everyone here. To top it all off, the phones died and so now I can hear them ringing, but I can’t answer them. Bluck. I feel blucky. My weekend was excellent though. Perhaps I can keep my thoughts together enough to chronicle some of what happened. While out grocery shopping on Friday, I drove around the block eight times before finding a parking space near Magazine Street and went to Earthsavers to stock up on more little bath beads. These bath beads are for children, I assume, since they come in fun shapes like turtles, hippos, dinosaurs, cats, and duckies, but ever since I found some little green fish shaped bath beads in my stocking one Christmas here in New Orleans, I’ve been hooked on the things. My favorite shape is the blue crescent moon. Go figure. But I also like the half white, half black cat. I use one bath bead per Caftan Night bath. I don’t try to match beads to scents, except sometimes I will go with the purple hippo when I have a lavender bath. Sometimes. I was down to my last six, so I stocked up on 20 more and that should last me until Christmas at least. It only seems like I take 20 million baths per weekend, but really I don’t. Seriously. I only took one this past weekend. On Friday. I used a crescent moon shaped bath bead. An old one, one of the six I had left before buying the 20 new ones. Saturday afternoon we went to the Westblank to change the oil in Kharis. We found the 5 Minute Oil place very easily, but trying to find our way to Best Buy and Linens-n-Things was something of a “long cut”. I ended up exploring parts of English Turn and then heading back towards Belle Chasse where I was determined to come across Belle Chasse highway eventually. Which I did. And from there it was easy. When we entered Best Buy it was with the intention of pricing VCRs and PC cams and then selecting which one to get. But they were offering six months interest free if you opened up a Best Buy card so I had Tommy open one up and we bought a printer instead. Tommy was understandably overjoyed. Since the PC’s name is Arwen, he dubbed the printer “Bilbo” since he will chronicle things and he was purchased on a grand adventure that was completely unexpected. Yes, Tommy and I are two of those annoying people who name almost all their possessions. Cars, PCs, printers, plants, stuffed animals. We give “people” names to our cats too. That annoys some people intensely. (But then I get annoyed with people who name cats things like “Blackie” or “Coalminer” so I guess I can sort of understand that.) Well, I did have a cat once named “October”, but we called him Toby and that’s a people name. And I meant all along to call him “Toby”, but I thought the idea of having a black cat named October was pretty irresistible. That cat’s name had levels. October, while a cool month, was also the name of a U2 album. You see how my strange mind works yet? I feel so BLUCKY. But I mentioned that before. Anyway, after buying Bilbo, we went to Barnes & Noble and Tommy got an Agatha Christie paperback (Halloween Party) and I got a Ruth Rendell collection of short stories for $1.99. So that was a cheap trip to the bookstore. Under ten bucks! While Tommy was browsing at the bookstore, I went next door to Linens-n-Things and bought some Yankee Candles for the fall. A medium sized jar of Cinnamon scent for Tommy’s Chamber. Three votives for my John/Tom/Mina stemmed votive holders on the mantel. Mom’s Apple Pie, Cinnamon, and Pumpkin Spice. Then I found a cool old fashioned trunk box with a palm tree painted on it and got some plastic drawer divider/receptacles and made myself a jewelry box since I am tired of having all my jewelry tangled up in a Valentine’s Day bag with fake fur pasted on it. After that it was time to go home as it was 5:30 and we were starving. When we got there, Tommy spent the next hour fiddling around setting up Bilbo while I made Zatarain’s Dirty Rice, which we ate while watching episodes of “Keeping Up Appearances”. We love our Hyacinth! We settled down around 9:30 or so to watch “And Then There Were None” by candlelight. I had to send poor Tommy to bed around 10:15 or so because he could not keep his eyes open. No sooner was he settled in bed, then I was stretched out on the couch with the cats and I don’t think I saw much more of the movie than he did really. But it was wonderful fun. Yesterday as were watching “Friends”, the late afternoon sun splashed in the window and hit me and I thought I was a vampire because the room started to spin and dance and I started to feel very, uh, blucky. So I had to scuttle off to bed and that was the end of my weekend really. Well, now that I’ve chronicled the weekend, I might as well try to do some work before I end up going home to bed. Bluck. Until next time, Olrun
