Monday, Oct. 20, 2003 - 1:46 p.m. Greetings, The house next door was finally sold and the people moved in over the weekend. I never saw any furniture van, so I’m not sure if they have furniture or not. They have gauzy fabric curtain stuff up now, so I can no longer see inside the windows. Which is good because when I was catching glimpses of them walking around in the house through my windows when I was drawing the blinds (or, okay, intentionally peeking to see if they were in the room since the light was on and shining through my blinds), I was majorly feeling like a peeping Tom. Yuck. The weekend was a long one spent primarily at Crescentwood. I did go out grocery shopping on Friday afternoon, but other than that I stayed put. Thursday night we rushed home to watch “Friends” and drink hard cider only to discover it was a re-run. But it was a funny re-run, so whatever. But then Scrubs wasn’t on and that horrible Will & Grace was instead. What was that all about? So I took a library book to bed. I slept really late Friday morning. And then I drank Pumpkin Spice flavored coffee. And proceeded to get further and further disinclined to clean even though the digital cable was not in service. Instead I read “It” by Stephen King. It’s only my second time reading this book, and the last time I read it, it must have been in the late 80s. It just underscores my belief that one of the scariest things in the world is a goddamn clown. I hate those things. I did eventually clean up Crescentwood and I did the aforementioned grocery shopping and then Friday night I both caftaned and did some magical work. I was something of a boozehound this weekend too for some reason. Hard cider, rum and coke, pink champagne AND a whole bottle of Chianti between Thursday night and last night. And no hangovers. I did get a little giggly with the wine yesterday afternoon during the second Harry Potter though. But I am ahead of myself. Friday night’s dinner was Hamburger Helper and I watched four or five episodes of Twilight Zone by candlelight. The Coven Candles were glowing on the mantel and all the Halloween lights were on and things were lovely. I fell asleep on the couch and woke up at 2 a.m. to the sounds of the bar up the street closing down. (And what bar in New Orleans closes at 2 a.m.?? Flashback to Connecticut!) Lots of loud laughing drunk people. Lots of rap and hip hop music played at excruciatingly high decibels from shoddy car stereos in cars “warming up” for five minutes before they drove away. (I’m talking like window rattling, teeth nearly falling out loud. The floor of Crescentwood was shimmying to some of this music. And cats were falling all over themselves to get away.) The good thing was that it only lasted from about three minutes after 2 and was done by 25 after. Tommy has been telling me how loud the Friday night crowd is and until I experienced it for myself, I had no idea just how pervasively loud this weekly event was. And only on Fridays for some reason. Luckily the bedroom at Crescentwood is at the back of the house, so this stuff barely penetrates in there. But in the living room? Oy! I slept very late again on Saturday morning and made more Pumpkin Spice coffee when I got up. More reading of “It”, more bitching about no cable. Tommy spent the afternoon weed whacking the backyard and I made a voodoo veve for Erzulie Freda from felt, sparkle glitter, sequins and little tiny fake pearls. Saturday night I did some more magical work which included a lovely bubble bath, some zill work and pink champagne. Then Tommy and I settled down to watch “Waxwork” around midnight. Mr. John, do you remember this movie? “I think dictators are the bad people. They have the shouting voices and the small moustaches…” I always had a soft spot for the vampire (who looks like the “Hombre Man” from that “Friends” episode) and the Marquis de Sade, especially when his hair kept getting in the way when he was trying to be a swashbuckling duelist. More candles, more incense. I made Zatarain’s Dirty Rice for dinner. Yesterday I read even more “It”, drank the bottle of Chianti, ate pasta and watched “Harry Potter” with Tommy. And some South Park episodes too come to think of it. So that was my weekend and here I am in my new job surrounded by lovely peace and quiet and no stress. It’s lunch time, so I will bid you all adieu here. Until next time, Olrun
