Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 - 9:32 a.m. Greetings, I’m pretty happy it’s Friday, although I will say it was hard to get up this morning. All I could think about was being able to sleep late tomorrow morning. I’m sipping warm chai tea from PJs right now because unlike last time I had hot chai, I did not kick the cup over this morning in the parking garage. So already it’s made getting up this morning worth it. With much trepidation did I venture into the dentist’s office yesterday. I just hate the thought of drills and cavities and being chained to that damn chair even if I can watch “While You Were Out” at the same time. (I prefer “Changing Rooms” anyway.) I arrived at the stroke of four p.m. and sat in a chair reading “Country Road Trips” magazine for about five minutes. Said “Country” was mostly located in California which does not make sense to me, but whatever. I just looked at the pretty pictures and found this neat motel made out of old renovated cabooses and thought, “Tom would really like to stay there!” I made a mental note to remember where exactly this motel was, but today all I can recall is that it is *somewhere* in California. Yeah, we’ll be packing our bags and heading out soon for the Caboose Motel. The hygienist had some sort of European accent, but I couldn’t really place it. She scraped, prodded and poked and told me about how the enamel on some of my teeth is alarmingly thin and about this strange “occlusion” on the side of my mouth that the dentist may or may not want to fill. There was talk about “bonding” (and not the friendly type) and there was a gift of Sensodyne toothpaste. I could also have gotten a toothbrush but I sneer at regular toothbrushes since the advent of my Crest Spin Brush. My dentist is a little round butterball with a bushy grey beard and he sometimes likes to lecture. So I steeled myself to hear all about how it’s been more than a year since I came for a cleaning and, what’s all this enamel stuff, aren’t you rinsing with fluoride? (Which I am!) Instead he reminded me of Santa Claus because he was so jolly. He peeked into my mouth and said not a word about the enamel, made one comment about it being over a year since my last cleaning, but he only mentioned that because he wanted to fix the “occlusion” and wanted to offer me the opportunity to meet my deductible at the beginning of next year and do the work then as opposed to doing it this year if it made sense monetarily to do so. I consulted with the Oracle at the front desk who told me I would pay $59 out of pocket for the work and I opted to get it the hell done this year so I wouldn’t have to start off the New Year with a drill in my mouth. (But apparently it will be a very quick, breezy sort of thing. It’s not so much a cavity as it is a filling that needs a bit of readjusting.) So I floated away from the dentist’s office yesterday made weightless with relief. And my teeth feel so clean now! Seriously, Crest Spin Brushes are the shiznit. And Act rinse is also great. You use it after you brush in the morning (or at night) and don’t eat or drink anything for half an hour at least. Voila! After the dentist I went to Schminn Sixie for groceries where I bought new batteries for my spin brush among other things. Somehow I ended up with a free frozen turkey which I am thinking about making for the Dark Crescent Pylon’s annual Sumble dinner. I’ll have to get some feedback from everyone first though. I also bought the cats their Fancy Feast turkey dinners for Thanksgiving which I’ll give them at 4:30 in the morning Thanksgiving Day before Thomas and I depart for the airport. Pandora saw me putting the cans in the cats’ cupboard in the kitchen and looked very upset that she wasn’t getting any at that particular moment. She consoled herself with dry food. I’m wearing my eihwaz rune necklace today. I bought it a few years ago at Busch Gardens. It has the word “death” inscribed on the back of it, but that is not how I see the rune at all. When I bought it, I had no clue what the runes were about but I’ve done some experimentation and research in the ensuing years. Eihwaz is more about protection. And communication beyond the veil. So I guess that’s where “Death” came from. But I wear this rune necklace a lot on Fridays, although a few years ago I wore it every single day and night. It became one of the more tangible symbols of My Conversation with Tom before we met in person. I even bought him a matching rune necklace (only his was hand made) at a Ren Fair. I recall the man who sold it to me sneered profusely at the interpretation of “Death” and also I happened to mention I had Ralph Blum’s book. That’s sort of like telling a Setian you are exploring the LHP with your very own COS membership card. Ouch. But I digress. But then, what are Friday entries for? Until next time, Olrun
