Greetings,

Just got back from lunch at Commander’s Palace. It was very good. My favorite thing: They were giving out jingle bells on ribbons to wear around your neck. The ribbon is the same shade of blue as the restaurant and says “Commander’s Palace” in gold all over it.

Now I don’t want to wear it, but it will be a cool addition to my Study and a reminder of the day.

We ate in the Garden Room which put us with a view down into Lafayette Cemetery on one side and the topmost branches of a live oak on the other. Very nice.

I had a seafood gumbo with chicken and turkey that was sinfully rich and savory. Then I had the winter mixed grill for the main entrée – Tasso sausage, pork, and some other kind of spicy sausage on a bed of cabbage and leeks topped with a cranberry BBQ sauce. Yum! I loved the cabbage and leeks, they were marinated in something pretty fine tasting.

No bread pudding for dessert though. Much too full.

The prices were not as astronomical as I thought they would be. Of course, this is lunch and you’re paying $13-$15 an entrée, but that’s with the appetizer included. So actually I was shocked at the prices. In a good way. I can afford to take Tommy back one afternoon when we can relax and have some wine or one of those very cool green martinis. Maybe his birthday?

The retirement party I planned went off very well. Lots of sodas and petit fours left over, but they are slowly being consumed as the afternoon wears on.

I went to Schpinn Wixie last night for paper products and came out $63 and a balloon later. The paper products were for the party so I get reimbursed. The balloon says “You’ll be missed!” and if it wasn’t still in my walk in closet, where I put it so I would be sure to remember it, it would have made a nice focal point at the party this morning. *sigh*

I don’t know what the hell to do with it now, maybe I’ll bring it over to Jaye on Friday and he can tie it to his wheelchair and that would be pretty spooky. Yeah, I think I’ll do that. ;)

Tomorrow night is Celebration in the Oaks and the Santa train ride and it will officially be Christmas season for me. This Saturday night is Christmas Caftan Night and I can watch Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol and bawl my silly little eyes out.

I will also be shopping for Christmas presents this weekend. Thomas gets his digital camera on the way home from Jaye’s (and I’ll get a copy of “It’s a Wonderful Life” for Christmas Eve viewing) and some people’s presents will be ordered online.

Paychecks are wonderful things, aren’t they?

Well, that’s all for this part.

Until next time,

Olrun
