Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 - 1:21 p.m.

Greetings,

Well, it is Monday and I am tired. My eyes are bloodshot because I spent from 4 p.m. until 2 a.m. Saturday/Sunday playing The Sims and then spent from 10 a.m. until, oh, midnight playing yesterday. So what s that combined? 24 hours or something?

Let’s just say that Betty Newbie’s house is much cleaner than mine. And she gets to take a bath every day.

I even squeezed in 45 minutes of play time this morning by getting up around 5:15 or so. And then it was 6:35 a.m. when I jumped in the shower and 6:54 when I walked out the door, car keys in hand. Ah, if only I could do that “whoosh” thing where I turn in a circle really fast and am naked and then turn in a circle really fast and I am fully clothed. That’s a real timesaver right there.

At the moment I type this I’m sitting here obsessing about buying Elliot and Harry (that’s the Newbie children I created) their own toy boxes and jazzing up their bedroom a bit. A bedroom I built! It’s kind of girly in there, all peachy, but at first I thought it would be Bob and Betty’s master bedroom, but then decided to shove the boys in there in case there’s ever another baby boy found at the doorstep. That room could fit three. Plus, Bob and Betty have the best room on the second floor with lemon yellow walls.

I am also thinking Harry would like an aquarium for the living room, he’s always talking about pets to everyone. At least I think he is – the bubbles above his head frequently feature animals of the pet variety.

And I can’t get the Latin music their little boom box plays out of my freaking skull.

Da duh duh da diddy dah. Do do do doot ditty doo.

Stop!

So really, that’s what I *did* with the weekend. There’s a distinct Before Sims/After Sims vibe at Crescentwood these days.

Before Sims I made my bed in the morning, I folded laundry and put it away, I spritzed down the countertops and erased Stela’s paw prints. Crescentwood + Weekend (Before Sims) = Clean.

After Sims, the devastation is total. There are clean clothes in a basket by the walk in closet, some of them are strewn on the floor due to my frantic dig through this morning to find matching socks. My pajamas are on the floor. So is the hair dryer. The bed is a rumple of wrinkled sheets and quilt. Pillow shams inside out on the floor. A glass of champagne, mostly drunk, from 1 am. Saturday night when Tommy came in the door saying, “Uh, did you know it was after midnight?” I thought it was about 8:30. Crescentwood + Weekend (After Sims) = Disaster Area.

Our Valentine’s dinner at K-Paul’s? Didn’t happen. That wasn’t the Sims’ fault, that was Mardi Gras’ fault. Crossing parade lines would have meant being trapped in the Quarter from 3 p.m. until after 10. With a car so no drinking. As Betty Newbie says when she tastes grilled hamburgers for 91st night in a row – Yeee-uck!

But not only didn’t K-Paul’s happen, dinner in general did not happen. I had a bologna and cheese sandwich around 1:30 Saturday afternoon and another one around 1:30 Sunday afternoon and that’s basically it for the weekend. (Well, except for the Reese’s Peanutbutter cups I found in Tommy’s backpack.)

Oh, and the glass of champagne.

It’s somewhat depressing that the Sims have a neater house than I do. Damn Newbies!

And I apparently own the most pedestrian version of the Sims out there. My father got it for free when he bought his PC last year and he gave me the game when I was visiting North Carolina in November. Just got around to installing it this weekend.

I think that’s a good thing. I might have missed Christmas and New Year’s Eve if I’d started playing it back in December. I can just see Tommy’s face as he comes in New Year’s Day around 2 p.m. “Uh,” he might have said,. “You do know it’s January 1st, right? And we haven’t eaten since sometime late last year.”

If I get any more addicted, the poor thing will probably have to pee on the floor to get my attention. It’s that bad.

I do remember NOT playing the Sims on Friday night. I had no clue what was in store for me.

I galloped out of work at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon to charge over to the Westblank to pick up Thomas and beat the parade traffic. It was raining, it was cold, there was lots of traffic and I was grouchy. (Yeah, so what else is new?)

We did get home without incident, but there was no Hamburger Helper and there was also no real dinner either come to think of it. What the hell did we do? It’s just a blur of non-Sims related activity frankly.

Wait – it was Friday the 13th! Duh!

Basically, I did some laundry and farted around until I happened upon some Star Trek NG on Spike (the network for MEN) while Thomas watched “Office Space” on his PC DVD player and then we hooked up around 9 or 10 to watch “Friday the 13th Part 2”. Thomas ended up snoring sitting up and so I sent him to bed and then I promptly dozed off for most of the murders but woke up for the end.

Saturday morning I spent bitching about whether or not we should go to K-Paul’s and how I needed to grocery shop, but was afraid to cross parade lines for fear of being stuck with a pile of groceries in my trunk and no way to get them home before they meeeelted.

I set out around 2 to shop and got around the corner, onto Tchoupitoulas and then saw that a line of traffic stretched to Napoleon and if cars were going through, they were not going fast, and so I took a quick right and ended up back at Crescentwood whereupon I asked Thomas to install the Sims and the rest is history as they say.

It was one a.m. and I thought it was around 8:30. That’s not even funny.

Until next time,

Olrun
