Monday, Mar. 08, 2004 - 1:48 p.m.

Greetings,

I have to say it was a very good weekend. It’s lovely to spend quality time with yourself once in a while.

Thursday night:

Got home and did laundry for Tommy’s trip to Houston. Straightened up the place a bit.

Friday: Got up at 7:30 to shower and get ready to bring Meow to the vet for her glucose check. It was on the high side so the vet gave her a half unit extra and I brought her home until 1 p.m. From 9 until about 11 or so I played Sims and talked to Tommy and watched him pack.

I drove him to the airport, turned around and drove back to Crescentwood, picked up Meow and brought her back to the vet’s. Glucose level was rather low this time due to the extra unit of insulin. No matter what we try to do, Meow seems stuck at 5 units.

I paid $250 of my $600 vet bill and brought Meow home where I stayed for the rest of the day playing Sims and doing laundry until 7 p.m. when I embarked upon a whirlwind of cleaning activity. It is possible to clean up Crescentwood (including mopping and everything) in an hour flat if you are going all out with the prospect of caftaning in your immediate future.

By 8:15 I was stretched out in a lovely chamomile scented bubble bath with a book of collected cat stories and mysteries and a glass of champagne.

After donning my dreaded Jewel Tone caftan (the one I have on in my user pic), I then took a stroll down Memory Lane and watched an episode of “Millennium” which I have not seen since it went off the air before 2000. I saw my Millennium Yellow House in the credits and I can still hear the haunting theme music and the beautifully disturbing opening credit imagery. Got mad at Catherine, Frank’s stupid wife, yet again. I chiefly remember hating that bitch for most of the series since all she ever did was whine about him being away and wanting to know everything he was involved with even though it was top secret. And when she was told and shown stuff, she totally freaked out and over-reacted, even to the point where once she was kidnapped and Frank found her and ended up killing the bastard who kidnapped her, in front of her. He had her chained up to wall and was going to kill Frank, so it wasn’t like Frank just wandered in and killed him, and her reaction to this was wanting a trial separation from him because he revealed this cold, murderous side to himself that she didn’t like or trust. I still can’t fathom her or why Frank ever married her in the first place.

But anyway, Catherine had relatively few scenes in this episode and so I was happy to watch it again while eating Hamburger Helper.

For Main Event I dragged out Tales from the Crypt - Demon Knight and got about halfway through before I realized I was not going to make it and so shut it off, blew out all the candles, and crept off happily to bed.

Saturday: Got up around 8:30 and played Sims until about 11. Then I took a shower and left the house to go get my oil changed, buy puppy pads, go grocery shopping, go to Earthsavers for bath beads, a walk in Audubon Park, and a visit to the river to read.

Out of that whole list I accomplished the following:

Puppy pad purchase (and I snuck into Barnes and Noble to buy two books: Agatha Christie’s “Murder in Retrospect” and a horror anthology with an intro by H.P. Lovecraft - although he was not the editor of the book, but he wrote an article on the horror story genre and the editor found some clips he’d written about certain horror writers and stuck them in front of each author’s story).

Oil change – got a kick ass girl who changed my oil and really paid attention to what she did and went the extra mile. I love 5 Minute Oil Change!

After oil change, I went home to eat lunch and grab a cold soda to bring with me to the river. Figured I would cut out the walk in Audubon as it was close to 3 p.m. when I left Crescentwood.

There was absolutely no parking anywhere near Earthsavers and after driving around the block three times I gave that one up and ended up on St. Charles headed for Audubon. I decided to make a quick detour to see Sinwood because I'd heard it was ready to rent again. Seriously, people, it’s Ronald McDonald yellow now. It was a lovely 20s style two family bungalow and now Landlord might as well erect the Golden Arches above the “For Rent” sign tacked up on the telephone pole.

I have a soft spot for my previous apartments in New Orleans, but I have no such place in my heart for Sinwood. Seeing it yellow after watching “Millennium” was rather weird, but the yellow in “Millennium” is that perfect lemony, sun washed, soft pastel. Everything I love about yellow, whereas Sinwood is everything I don’t like at all about yellow. And yellow is my favorite color. (Well, next to black!)

After shaking my head over Sinwood’s “transformation”, I drove off to the river and finally found a parking space after driving very slowly behind about 20 cars (with 20 cars trailing slowly behind me) because Saturday was the first day of spring here in New Orleans no matter what the calendar said, and everyone and their brother was out and about playing ball, fishing, walking, jogging, flirting and reading. (And trying to park.)

I found a bench by the water to myself and read “Murder in Retrospect” and watching the sunlight glint off the brown water. It was warm, but not hot and it was quite magical.

After the river, I went to Schwinn Pixie where my total came to $100.45! I am good!

I got home, unpacked groceries, did even more laundry, and played Sims until around 5:30 or so when I prepared to caftan. I gave myself a Biore facial mask and nose peel and ran a lavender scented bubble bath which both Stela and Pandora dipped their tails into at some point.

Drank champagne, did Banana Mudslide shots, watched Bryan Ferry and Ab Fab, talked to Ken, did some magic, made a pizza, and watched most of Frank Langella “Dracula” before midnight. It was a wonderful night.

Sunday: Played Sims all day long in-between bouts of laundry folding, dish washing, and cat petting. I did stay in bed until 10:30 though, reading my Agatha Christie and drinking orange juice while Agatha slept on my feet.

Picked up Thomas at nine at the airport and brought him home. Ended up in bed with my Agatha Christie and asleep by around 10:30.

And here I am!

Until next time,

Olrun
