Wednesday, Apr. 07, 2004 - 12:23 p.m. Greetings, X must be back in Connecticut by now. Her flight left at 5 a.m. this morning. She had a wake up call set up with the hotel for 3 a.m. Yuck. Last I saw of her, I was dropping her off at the Holiday Inn on Loyola to hook up with some other jubilant UConn fans. They had plans to go to Lafitte’s or Old Absinthe House on Bourbon for a celebratory drink (or two). I was invited but it was a work night so I declined. I suppose if I hadn’t been running myself ragged for the previous four days and nights I might have gone along, but then again, maybe not. Since I was driving I couldn’t really drink and Bourbon Street sober is really not a hell of a lot of fun generally speaking. I did enjoy the basketball game – the crowd, the cheerleading squads, the players, the whole package combined. Not saying I’d ever rush out to get season’s tickets, but, you know, a sporting event once in a blue moon is rather fun. I think the last sporting event I went to was a Whaler’s hockey game in, crap; it has to be the early 90s, so I think I was due. And it was the ladies and I hadn’t ever been to any games played by women, so this was a novelty. New experiences in general are good for me. I tend to be a tad insular and so stretching myself out beyond my self-prescribed boundaries is always something of a transformative event. Before the game, I met X at the Riverwalk and we went to the Messina’s Seafood stand at the Food Court. I got half a muffaletta and a frozen lemonade and she got a shrimp po-boy and a frozen lemonade. We ate outside on the balcony overlooking the river and it was great. The temps were in the low 70s, there was a crisp breeze to comb windy fingers through our hair, and the river was mud brown and rolling. I enjoyed it so much that I went home and proposed to Thomas that one Thursday or Friday night after work we meet in the lobby of my building and walk down there ourselves for some dinner. It would be a tremendous kick start to the weekend, relatively cheap, we’d park for free in my garage, and we’d be home in time for Meow’s shot and some horror movies. (Or, who am I kidding, some Sims!) Speaking of Sims, I actually decided to forego my normal 45 minutes of play time this morning to have a little extra snooze in bed. My husband was rather disgruntled because I made him get up at 20 after 5 while I lolled around until 5:30 or so before dragging my ass up. So while I really got an extra half hour, I only truly got ten minutes more in bed than he did. But you should hear him whine about it. Seriously. Of course he’d object to the verb “whine”, but I stand behind it. Firmly. Although I’d really like to go straight home this evening after work, it appears I must travel to the Westblank to pick up some puppy pads and Thomas wants to dip into Linens-n-Things for a new pillow. Since he’s going to do that, I figure I’ll get three new springtime Yankee votives for the Coven Candles, a new Yankee Car Jar for Kharis and perhaps a couple of towels since mine are a bit worn and I lost two of them recently during Meow’s brush with the vet. (Let’s just say that perhaps we should have wrapped her in puppy pads, but we used towels, and then there were some accidents, etc. and it ended up that the towels were destined to become landfill a few years earlier than scheduled.) But all of this shouldn’t take more than half an hour so we’ll still be home before 7 and that gives me plenty of time to play Sims, eat dinner, and relax. Tomorrow morning we’ll run out of creamer for our coffee, so tomorrow night I’ve got to do the weekly shop at Schwinn Brixie, *sigh*, but that means Friday, Saturday and Sunday I do not have to bestir myself one step outside of my own property lines. Woo hoo! Well, back to work for me! Until next time, Olrun
